From our family to yours.

From humble beginnings, our founders’ passion and work ethic enabled them to conquer their challenges, building a successful business that has provided value to customers and sustainable jobs to their community for over three decades.

Built with the same core principles they live their life by – faith, family and friendship, the company thrives by sharing a belief in the Golden Rule and the power of heart-centered leadership – essential ingredients in Van’s Kitchen.

1966

Our founders, Van & Kim Nguyen were born in Vietnam. With the threat of war looming in their homeland, they had a choice to make: Stay and live in oppression, or to give their family a life full of opportunity. In 1966, they chose to move to America. Mr. Van left first, and Mrs Kim and two-year-old daughter, Theresa, joined him soon after. With only $40 in her pocket, Mrs. Kim embarked on a journey to find a new home and a new life in an unfamiliar land.

1986

The family eventually moved to Dallas and began Van Oriental Food in 1986. With a team of dedicated employees, Van, Kim and their fresh-out-of-college daughter, Theresa, worked hard building their dream.

1993

Theresa intended to just help out for a couple of months, but that couple of months never ended, and neither did her dedication to her family, her team and her customers. In 1993, Theresa’s husband, Carl Motter, joined the team and helped us grow our purchasing, IT, and sales departments.

2014

Although Van and Kim retired in 2014, their legacy lives on. Now, with Theresa as CEO and Carl as CSO, they lead this company hand-in-hand.

Theresa Motter, CEO

In a time when the business world was hostile to both women and immigrants, Theresa overcame all obstacles to ensure Van’s Kitchen’s egg rolls were on grocery aisles across America. Armed with an amazing product, unrelenting faith, and a ‘never-quit’ spirit, the Van’s Kitchen family broke through barriers and fulfilled their dreams.

Theresa Today

In a time when the business world was hostile to both women and immigrants, Theresa overcame all obstacles to ensure Van’s Kitchen’s egg rolls were on grocery aisles across America. Armed with an amazing product, unrelenting faith, and a ‘never-quit’ spirit, the Van’s Kitchen family broke through barriers and fulfilled their dreams.

As our founder, Mr. Van always said,

“we make millions of egg rolls, but people eat them one bite at a time.”

That’s why it’s still our mission to make every bite the best one because every bite counts. And so does every life. It’s our desire to make every life that we impact the best one too.

At Van’s Kitchen, we know what it’s like to overcome difficult challenges.

We hope our story inspires you to rise up and fulfill your dreams. It’s important that we demonstrate that to others by getting involved in our community.

More than 11 million children in the United States live in food insecure homes. We support No Kid Hungry financially so they can provide meals to those in need and empower children by educating them about healthy eating.

The Van's Kitchen legacy of passion and purpose lives on today.

From the people who make our egg rolls, to the millions across the country who enjoy them, we believe there’s love in every bite. This is why it is important for us to live out our values every single day, so we can have the best mindset and create the best work environment and products.
